Anyone who has used a compass can tell you that a compass needle points to the north... almost. A compass need actually points to magnetic north. Which, depending on your geographical location in the world, is a few degrees off of true north. If you don't make those adjustments, all of your directions would be just a little bit off. On a short journey it might not matter much, but on a long trip you might end up hopelessly lost.

True North Christian Counseling exists to help you make some of those adjustments, get your bearings, and find your way out of the wilderness. Or into it, if that's where you happen to be heading.

Why Christian Counseling?

Austin has been a Christian for most of his life, and that ethos is a guiding principle to his counseling practice. True North as an organization is designed around these principles, and so "Christian Counseling" is included in our name to make these principles front-and-center to our clients.

This doesn't always mean that counseling will be expressly "Christian," but it does mean that our practice is guided by principles such as love (John 13:35) compassion (Matthew 25) and truth (Ephesians 4:15).

What if I'm not a Christian?

That's totally fine! If you are have different beliefs, no beliefs, or just do not want your spiritual beliefs to be a part of your counseling process, your counselor will guide their work with you based on your values. It is unethical for counselors to impart their values onto their clients. So, if you do not have any spiritual beliefs, you could expect working with a Christian Counselor to be similar to working with a non-Christian counselor; your values will be forefront, not ours.

Who does Austin see?

True North Christian Counseling originally started to serve couples. This would include couples who are married, considering marriage, or even considering divorce. However, Austin also has experience and training working with adults and adolescents down to the age of 12.

While Austin specializes in couple's therapy, clients who would like to address anxiety, trauma, depression, suicidal ideation, or family dynamics are also welcome.
